Reading Program

Caitlin has discovered the joy of reading and Scott and I are really proud of her. Both the girls were a part of the library summer reading club and have been working on their prizes. Brittany received 2 prize goody bags and I think Caitlin had 6.
The library had a final party with a petting zoo (which Brittany wouldn't go in), Bounce House, and grand prizes.
Caitlin had a total of 61 hours of reading, just from June through the middle of July. She had the 2nd highest reading time of all the kids that participated through age 12.
She received two book covers, an American girl small doll, book, trading cards and DVD. Plus, she gets to go shopping with $45.00 to Barnes and Noble. The library was very generous and chose perfect gifts (Caitlin has been working on reading all of the American Girl books). WOW!

VBS

Vacation Bible School was July 6-10. Our theme was "Jesus to the Rescue".
Caitlin was with the 6-7 year olds, and I was the leader for the 8-9 year olds. It was a very fun week with close to 150 kids. One girl in my group accepted Christ as her Savior.
We always have a boys against the girls penny contest to raise money for one of our missionaries. This year the money was for Jeff Glaesman with Cornerstone Baptist Builders. They helped to build our new Family Life Center. Jeff was injured while cutting ceramic tile and almost lost his eye. For now, he gets to be another "patch the pirate" but God miraculously saved his eye and Jeff has now been told that he may be able to have a cornia transplant. The doctors have been amazed but we know the Great Physician and who came to his rescue! The boys were the winners so the girls received the pies :(
(Chuck to Amy, Pastor to Rose, Mr. Lee to Andrea, Timothy to Amanda)
On Friday, the kids performed all of their songs and Bible verses from each day and summarized each Bible story for the parents. They did a great job!

4th of July

After the Reunion, we went to the Lake Dallas Activities and Fireworks.
The girls both had their faces painted.
Brittany wasn't too sure, but she did it!

Caitlin was very excited about the rock climbing wall...
until she was about half way up. She quickly decided it was not for her after all.
She returned to the water slide instead and was soaked.
Both the girls enjoyed different bounce house races and activities. Caitlin is a big help to Brittany.
Of course, we had to have fireworks.
Though the girls don't look like their having fun, they were just relaxing on Daddy, watching the show. It was a great fireworks show and all of the activities were free. We have decided that if we are home, we are definitely coming back here for the fireworks.

Happy late 4th of July!!!

LCA/GCA Reunion

This was the first time that my school Lewisville Christian Academy (now Grace Christian Academy) had an all-class reunion. It was a great success. It was Friday night for only the adults and Saturday was for the whole family. We saw many friends that I hadn't seen in years.
This was one of my teachers, the Holts. They used to live close to us and let us ride their horse.

Jimmy and Amanda Turbeville were here. Jimmy graduated with my brother David. Jimmy, Amanda, and I all went to college together and now they live in Indiana.

From my graduating class of 5 in 1995, it was Jonathan Young and myself.

My brother Daniel was here with Joey and Jason from his graduating class. Nathan and Judi also came on Saturday.

This is a picture of all the current and former students. I love that Caitlin goes to school where I went to school and still has many of the same teachers! God is good!!!

This is a picture of all the teachers, past and present.

The kids got in on the fun too. Caitlin and Brittany were both glad to see Deanna, Cassie, Olivia, and Joseph.
Brittany has since decided that her name is Cassie (just like her friend). If you ask her, what is your name, she will tell you "Cassie".

They had a bounce house inside and a pinata for the kids. Plus the basketball and volleyball for the alumni.
It was a lot of fun and we look forward to the next one in 2015!

Total Gym

We went to some garage sales last Saturday and Scott bought a Total Gym exercise machine for $10.00. We have been searching for one for the right price for a long time. It is always neat to see God providing so much more than just our needs.

The girls have come up with their own exercises and already use it more than Scott.

Sewing Class

Sewing Class for Mommy has also come to an end. This is my 3rd year taking the class offered by Mrs. Vannattan at church. We did it Mon., and Tues., from 12:30-3:30 for three weeks. The time flew by way too fast.

Here's what I made: One dress for Brittany
(which matches Caitlin's skirt from sewing class last year, as well as I made both the girls matching hats). Caitlin's hat didn't turn out very good, but Brittany's hat still fits.

Here is Brittany trying not to let me take her picture :)
I also made Caitlin a pair of dressy black gauchos and the girls matching light blue "play" gauchos.Just before sewing started, I completed two pairs of Caitlin's school culottes. Have I mentioned that it has been very busy around here???

Scott's B-day

For Scott's B-day, Caitlin and I made him 2 big chocolate chip cookies. Can you guess which one is for Scott? (It has almost no chocolate chips in it. Isn't that so sad to have to do that to a cookie?)

Mom and Dad surprised Scott with steak for his present. Lots and lots of steak...

He was one happy man!!!

We also made some of his other favorite foods. We made rice krispie treats, drop biscuits, squash, (to make Taylor jealous), devilled eggs. I have an awesome egg cooker that boils them in the microwave. Just fill the bottom with water, add the eggs, replace cover, and cook for 8 minutes. This is the first time that it let me down and exploded all over the microwave two different times : (

Later in the week, we then made taco salads and fajitas with the steak. It was delicious!

Fishing

Last Saturday, we went to the Highland Village Red, White, and Blue festival. In the morning time, Caitlin, Daddy, and Grandad went fishing.
Caitlin caught the first fish.
Scott then got on a role and added 7 more fish to the pile.
Brittany just enjoyed laying back in her chair, taking it all in.
Here is Caitlin's fish trying to make an escape back to freedom.Even though Caitlin only caught one fish, it was the biggest fish for her age category and much bigger than any of Scott's fish. She won a trophy and a new fishing pole with a small tackle box.
Then the cooking began (the squeamish should not look at the following pics).
Here is Grandad's lesson on how to fillet fish.

(I think Scott had the most fun of all!)
Scott grilled it and Grandmom came and ate fish too. It was delicious.

We ended the evening with fireworks. Brittany loved them and just kept pointing and saying "That's Big".
